Updated: January 1, 2016

Real Madrid are thought to be giving consideration to making a shock move for Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores, report the Metro.

With current Los Blancos boss Rafa Benitez struggling to convince in charge of the club, there has been speculation that the La Liga giants could soon wield the axe on the former Liverpool and Chelsea manager.

Axed Chelsea chief Jose Mourinho is understood to have rejected an approach to take charge in the Spanish capital, having previously managed them between 2010 and 2013 before his acrimonious departure.

Now, they could turn their attentions to Flores, who has worked wonders with newly promoted Watford since his appointment at Vicarage Road in June.

The Spaniard also has a wealth of La Liga experience during his time Valencia, Getafe and Atletico Madrid, winning the Europa League with the latter.

As a player, the 50-year old played for Real between 1994 and 1996, winning the La Liga title.
