According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, Manchester United have joined the race to sign Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic during the summer transfer window.

Since moving to the Stadio Olimpico from Lyon in 2011, the Bosnian international has flourished into one of the top midfielders in world football, finishing last season with ten goals and twelve assists in 33 Serie A appearances.

That has attracted interest from a plethora of Europe’s top clubs, not least including Juventus, PSG and Barcelona, the Italian, French and Spanish champions respectively, and Pjanic’s £29million release clause makes a summer transfer all the more plausible.

But fresh managerial appointment Jose Mourinho is also keen to bring the 26-year-old to Manchester United during the coming transfer window.

The Red Devils’ midfield could certainly do with an injection of attacking creativity, with the likes of Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Marouane Fellaini lacking technical flair.

However, the Old Trafford outfit could be tempted to wait until next summer, when Pjanic’s release clause drops to just £21million and his Roma contract enters its final year.
