Man United rivalling Barca in race to sign goalscoring full-back prodigy

Updated: June 14, 2016

According to reports from Gianluca Di Marzio, Manchester United have joined the transfer race to sign Monaco right-back Fabinho.

The 22-year-old has been in phenomenal form since signing for the French club permanently last summer following two years on loan, finishing the 2015/16 campaign with six goals and four assists in 34 Ligue 1 appearances.

That has been enough to earn the youngster, who can also operate as a wing-back or a central midfielder, opportunities within the Brazil fold – picking up four caps since making his senior international debut in June 2015.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, that has also seen Fabinho emerge as a prime transfer target for Napoli, who are focusing on improving their backline this summer.

But the Italian journalist further alleges that Manchester United and Barcelona are also interested in the Selecao starlet – and are ‘taking action to acquire him’.

The news coincides with rumours that Jose Mourinho is looking to offload United’s current first-choice right-back Matteo Darmian.
