Sacking Rafa Benitez was a mistake

Updated: January 5, 2016

When Jose Mourinho was sacked from the Chelsea helm last month, fans and pundits were almost certain that the next big name to be axed by their club would be Louis van Gaal at Manchester United.

But even with losses against Norwich City and Stoke City, the Dutchman kept his job at Old Trafford at the turn of the New Year.

Meanwhile though, in Spain, Rafa Benitez has been SACKED by Real Madrid just seven months after taking over from Carlo Ancelotti.

Why? Well we’re not certain. The former Liverpool and Chelsea gaffer has been doing fairly well in his first term in charge and are only three points behind league leaders Atletico Madrid.

I mean, they’re tied on points with European champions Barcelona at the moment. Even for the trigger-happy Florentino Perez, that was a huge surprise indeed.
